A shopkeeper sells one item for Rs. 2300 at a gain of 15% and another for Rs. 2820 at a loss of 6%. His total gain or loss percent is:
1) 2⅖% gain 2)4⅔% gain 3)6⅓% loss 4)5⅘% loss 5) None of these
Read Solution (Total 1)

- [Note: Formulas required- C.P= (100/(100+gain%)*S.P)
Also, C.P=(100/100-loss%)*S.P) ]
From the given data we can find out the C.P. of two items.
C.P. of 1st item = (100/(100+15)*2300) = Rs. 2000
Similarly,
C.P. of 2nd item = (100/(100-6)*2820) = Rs. 3000
Total C.P= 2000+3000 = Rs. 5000
And total S.P= 2300+2820 = Rs. 5120
(Since S.P > C.P, we can say that there is gain)
Hence, Gain% = (gain/C.P)*100 = (120/5000)*100 = 2⅖%
Therefore, option A is the correct answer. - 4 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
