Exam
Mr Kitto was exactly 5 years older than his wife and they had two children, who were twins and went to the local comprehensive school.
One evening, one of the twins (who had just been given a calculator) announced that if you multiplied together the parents' ages, and then added together the twins' ages, and divided one result by another, the answer was 57 exactly.
How old was Mr Kitto?

- Let's say Mr Kitto is "x" years old.
His wife is therefore "x - 5" years old.
We could also say that each twin is "y" years old.
x(x - 5)/2y = 57
Restating the above equation in terms of "y":
y = x(x - 5)/114
Note that 114 = 2 * 3 * 19
For "y" to be a whole number, x(x - 5) must be divisible by all three of 2, 3 and 19.
I've found several solutions ... for instance:
(i) Mr Kitto is 24; Mrs Kitto is 19; the twins are each 4yo and little geniuses!
24 * 19 = 456
456/8 = 57
(ii) Mr Kitto is 38; Mrs Kitto is 33; the twins are each 11yo ... looks like the best answer.(bcoz twins r in secondary school
38 * 33 = 1254
1254/22 = 57
