An inlet pipe can fill an empty pool with water in 5 hours, and the pool’s outlet pipecan empty a
full pool in 6 hours. The water flows at constant rates through both pipesregardless of the water
level in the pool. If both pipes were inadvertently left open, what fraction of the pool would be
filled exactly 5 hours after water began to flow intothe empty pool?
Read Solution (Total 5)

- IN 1 HOUR TOTAL WATER I THE TANK=(1/5 -1/6)=1/30
SO IN 5 HOURS IT WILL BE (1/30)*5=1/6~1.67 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(0)
- in 1 hr total water in the tank is 1/30(=1/5-1/6)
in 5 hour total water 5*(1/30)=1/6 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(0)
- its take 6hr to be empty the pool
so in 1 hr (100/6) % emptied
so after 5 hr fraction of pool filled by water is 100-5*{100/6}=16.66 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(2)
- ans 1/6
in 1 hr 1/5th pool is full n 1/6 pool is emptied
so 1/5-1/6 fraction remains oie 1/30
so in 5 hrs its 5*1/30=1/6 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- in series=r1+r2
in parlellel 1/r=1/r1+1/r2
so in series 27.2+27.2=54.4 kohm
while with 29.3 in parllel 1/54.4+129.3=19.0432kohm(ans) - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
