Maths Puzzle
we have two candles.one is thick and another is thin.thicker one burns 2 hours more then thiner one.what is the time lapsed when the hight of thiner is half the thicker one???
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- it will depend on time taken by candles to burn completely.
If l unit is length of each candle and t is time taken by thinner candle to burn completely, and x is time elapsed when height of thinner is half the thicker one,then
2*(l-x*l/t)= (l-x*l(t+2))
solving
x= [t*(t+2)/(t+4)]
For example if t=4, then
x= 4*6/8= 3 hrs
after 3 hrs , length of thinner candle will be l/4 and length of thicker candle will be l/2.
