there are 3 types of apples in a box. what is the number of apples we should take so that we end up with 3 apples of one kind.

if we take out 6 apples...
then in the worst case, we can have 2 apples of each kind

but we want that there should be a guarantee that 3 apples of 1 kind will be pulled out...

so, if we pick up 7 apples.. it is sure that at least one type of apples will be 3 in number...
