- According to me :)
Given- 8 cup of tea purchased => (600/24)*8 = 200
money left = 2200-200 = 2000
Now,if karan wanna to buy maximum no. of coffee cup , he must keep the price of coffee cup minimum ..
if he buy 15 cup for 1000 , cost of one cup = 66.66
but if he purchase 1 cup for 65, then, cost of 15 cup will be = 65*15 = 975 (he will have 15 cup with plus 25 rupees more :) )
similarly if he purchase 1 cup for 64 ,then, cost of 15 cup will be = 64*15 = 960 (again save 40 rupees )
if he buy 1 cup for 63 rupees , then, cost of 15 cup will be = 63*15 = 945 (again saving 55 bucks )
if he buy 1 cup for 62 rupees , then , cost of 15 cup will be = 62*15 =930 (not possible,although he save 70 bucks but think about it, instead of saving 70 bucks he will buy 1 cup more, if it happens, he will have 16 cup and 8 bucks, not possible as he purchased only 15 cup).
so he buy 15 cup for 945..
total money he have = 2000 + 55 (remaining balance 1000-945) =2055
=> 2055/63 = 32.61 (c'mon he will not buy .62 cup)
so 32 cup will be answer with 39 rupees extra... - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(23) No(10)
- B. 32
For the maximum no. of coffee cups to be bought , we have to keep the prices of tea cup as well as coffee cup to be minimum.
Now Had it been, Mr. Karan Bought the tea cup for Rs.24 each then he would have bought 25 such cups but as stated in question he bought 24 such cups so the rate has to be more than Rs. 24 (Assume 24.01). Now if had bought at this rate (24.01Rs) then he can purchase maximum of 24 Cups.
Similarly we have to keep coffe cup rates minimum and it comes out to be Rs.62.5
Thus at 24.01*8 cups he spent 192.08 on tea cups and rest 2200-192(approx)=2008 on coffee at minimum coffe rate to get maximum cups . 2008/62.5=32 approxx
Hence B) 32

- Mr Ravi 24.98 cups means i cannot buy 25 cups . Let me explain as a layman >> If i give shopkeeper a money for buying 24.98 cups he will not give me 25 cups that is the price of 25 cups is 24.01*25=600.25 , i am still short of .25 Rs or 25 paisa, so i cannot buy 25 cups.
so ultimately i have to buy 24cups only at the rate of 24.01 that is 24*24.01=576.24 now iam left with 600-576.24=23.76 Rs and obviously i cannot buy a cup of tea of cost Rs.24.01 with Rs.23.76.
Now to buy a cup of coffee i need to have much money. if i spent 24.01*8=192.08, then i spare 2200-192.08 = 2007.92 Rs for buying cups of coffee(which is maximum i can save to buy max. cup of coffee).
Now u tell me with which amount i can buy more cup of coffee with 2007.92 Rs or with 2000 as other people saying.
The answer is definitely by 2007.92. Now to buy max. cups i use same concept with coffee and it comes out to be 62.50 Rs which gives me atmost 32.12 Cup of coffee , then karan paid for 32 cup of coffee and kept rest of the money with him that is 62.5*32=2000 but he had 2007.92 with him so he kept 2007.92-2000=7.92 with him itself as he cannot buy a cup of coffee of Rs 62.50 in amount Rs.7.921.
Hope it helps , i spent some of my valuable time by writing this.
The explanation of this cannot be simpler than this. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(1)
- @ Prerana - Who said that the price of Cup of Tea is 600/24=25. But to maximise quantity we have to minimize its cost. we also cannot minimize it to Rs.24 each otherwise he can buy 25 cups for Rs.600 . That is 24Rs each*25quantity=600.
So to let quantity to be less than 25 we keep te price more than 24 .
So their exist a range for both

- it should be like this if 600 rs karan buys 24 tea cup 1 tea cup= 600/24= rs 25
1000 rs 25 coffe cups 1 coffee cup cost = 1000/15= rs 66.6666666
now he has 2200 and he purchased 8 cups of tea than 8*25=200. and remaining 2000 he has to purchase coffe cups so for 2000/66.6666 =30.30 hence maximum of 31 cups he can purchase - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(9)
- @ Prerana - How can Shopkeeper give u 31 cups whose price according to u is 66.66*31=2066.46 at Rs 2000. Any discount ?

- Cost of a Tea cup = 600/24 = 25
Cost of 8 tea cups = 200
Now he has 2000 left to buy coffee cups
Minimum possible cost of a single coffee cup
64 * 15 = 960
63 * 15 = 945
62 * 15 = 930 (not possible because the max number of cups for Rs 1000 can be 16 as 62*16 = 992 < 1000)
63 is the minimum cost of coffee cup
for 2000 he can buy (2000/63) = 31.xyz

- sunny Gahir.
Can u tell me if you divide 600 by 24.01 it will be 24.98 max cups but the Q is of 24 cups . Can u explain how u are right ?.
same with also about rupee 1000. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(4)
- 600/24=25, max 25 rs/tea
24*25=600
24*24+24=600 => minm 24.1 rs/tea(let)
1000/15=66.66 , max 66.66 rs/coffee
65*15+25=1000
64*15+40=1000
63*15+55=1000
62*15+70=1000
62.5*15+62.5=1000 => minm 62.6 rs/coffee
if y be the no. of cup of coffes
so 8*24.1+y*62.6=2200 => y= 32.-- => maxm 32 cup of coffees - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- @ravi Approach used by sunny is 100% correct.
Now, you tell me how would you suppose to buy 24.98 cups, you won't, you would buy 24 only as given in question(With minimizing cost). - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- The answer is 33
tea cost 25
cofee cost is 66.66
he has 2200 rupees and 200(8 cups of tea cost)
for the 2200 he can purchase 33 cups of coffee - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(6)
- lets take tea=T coffee=C
24T=600----(1) & 15C=1000-----(2)
from (1) T=25
for 1 cup of tea=25/-
from (2) C=66.7
for 1 cup of coffee=66.66/-
(8*25)+(66.66*C)=2200
66.66*C=2000
C=30.30=31
