What is the probability that year selected at random is a leap year?
A.1/4
B.24/100
C.95/400
D.97/400

- 97/400
since every fourth year is a leap year.so 1/4
but if year is a multiple of 100, it should be divisible by 400,so (100,200,300)in spite of being divisible by 4 are not leap years...
so probability=(1/4-3/400)=97/400.. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(23) No(1)
- Since the duration of a solar year is slightly less than 365.25 days, so years that are evenly divisible by 100 are not leap years, unless they are also evenly divisible by 400, in which case they are leap years.
for example, year 2100, 2200, 2300 are not the leap years.
So, in general, if you go by real mathematics calculation then in every 400 years there could be 100 leap years but since year number 100, 200 and 300 cannot be counted as leap year, so in fact, there are only 97 leap years are there in every 400 years.
So, probability of having leap year would be 97/400 = 0.2425 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(0)

- @pankhuri : "so probability=(1/4-3/400)=97/400." can you elaborate this calculation.

if year is multiple of 100 then number should be divided by100
otherwise must divisble by 4 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(6)
- Ans is 97/100
If a number of year is multiple of 100, the number of year will be divided by 100.
Else the same case for number with 4. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
