A and B together can do a work in 72 minutes. But B takes 1 hour more than A takes to do the same work, when each works alone. Find the time taken by A and B each working alone to do the same work.

let A takes x hr to finish the work alone
so B takes x+1 hr
now,1/x + 1/(x+1) = 1/1.2
=>after solving the eqn
we get x=2 and -3/5(can't be)
hence A will take 2 hr and B will take 3 hr

let A complete the work in X hrs
so 1hr work of A =1/X
1hr work of B=1/1=X
1hr work of (A+B)= 1/1=X + 1/X = 1/1.2
SOLVING FOR X WE HAVE X= (6,-4)
so A completes in 6 hrs and B in 7 hrs

Book Other Question

A takes 5 days less than the time taken by B to do some work. They can do the work together in 6 days. Find the number of days in which each of them can do the work separately. The hotel bill for a number of people for a overnight stay is Rs 4800. If there were 4 more, the bill each person had to pay would have reduced by Rs 200. Find the number of people staying overnight.
