Time Distance and Speed
A boat M leaves shore A and at the same time boat B leaves shore B. They move across the river. They met at 500 yards away from A and after that they met 300 yards away from shore B without halting at shores. Find the distance between the shore A & B.

- 1) A------------------500--|-----------(d-500)----------------------B
2) A----------------(d-300)--------------|-300----------------------B
let a and b are the speeds of boats m,b
in first meet,
time taken by m=time taken by b
500/a=(d-500)/b
a/b=500/(d-500)-----------------(1)
in second meet,
the boat m should travel (d-500)+300
then boat b should travel 500+(d-300)
time taken to travel from firstmeet to second meet of m=time taken to travel from firstmeet to second meet of b
(d-500)+300/a=500+(d-300)/b
d-200/d+200=a/b
from (1)
(d-200)/(d+200)=500/(d-500)
(d-200)(d-500)=500(d+200)
d^2-700d+1000=500d+1000
d^2-1200d=0
d(d-1200)=0
d=1200
