A man wafts to reach up a window 40 ft. from the ground. The distance from the foot of the ladder to the wall is 9 feet. How long should the ladder be?

- @Karthik : this whole system will form a right angled triangle..
the ladder must be kept in slanting position to reach the wall i.e. it will be hypotenuse.
now the wall itself is perpendicular, i.e. 40ft
the ladder foot is at 9 ft from the wall. this is the base of triangle..
so simply py triangle rule,
sqrt[(40^2)+(9^2)] = 41 ft long ladder.

- this is a problem of pythagoras theorem.
i.e, length of hypotenuse=sqrt(height^2+base^2)
the wall is perpendicular to the ground.

base=9ft
