A coin is tossed 5 times, Probability of getting
head exactly 3 times is:
Read Solution (Total 6)
-
- coin tossed 5 times so 2*2*2*2*2=32
getting heads only in 3 times=HHHHH,HHHHT,HHHTT,HHTTH,HTTHH,TTHHH,THHHT,THHTH,THTHH,HTHTH=10
PROBABILITY=10/32=0.3125.

- 3/10........Out of 10 outcomes 3 must be heads

- probability for head=1/2
probability for red king=2/52
thus ans is=(1/2)*(2/52)=1/52

- This problem can be solved in two different ways
1) By using factorial
2) By using binomial distribution.
Let us discuss the first way
When a coin is tossed 5 times, the total number of outcomes is 2^5 = 32
A coin is having two sides head and tail, getting three of the same type among the five is 5!/3!*2!= 5*4*3*2*1/3*2*1*2*1= 10 (HHHTT, can be arranged in 10 ways)
so probability is 10/32
2) Second technique by using binomial distribution
p(x)= (Ncx)p^x q^n-x (n combination x * p power x * q power n-x
where p= probability of getting head= 1/2, q= probaility of not getting head =1/2, n = number of times a coin is tossed =5,
Probability of getting exactly 3 head= 5c3(1/2)^3*(1/2)^2= 10*1/8*1/4 =10/32
