• After 6hrs paul reached = 6 * 6 = 36km at 6pm(Started at 12pm + 6hrs)
  
  After 4hrs John reached = 9 * 4 = 36km at 5.30pm(Started at 1.30pm + 4hrs)
  
  At 5.30pm paul reached 33km(36km - 6kmph/2).
  
  So at 5.30pm john will 3km ahead of paul.
