I bought 5 pens, 7 pencils and 4 erasers. Rajan bought 6 pens, 8 erasers and 14 pencils for an amount which was half more than what I had paid. What percent of the total amount paid by me was paid for the pens?

  RAJAN: 6P+14PN+8er=x/2 -----2
  solve (1)&(2) get p=0.5x/4
  but i have 5 pens so:5*0.5x/4
  % of total amt paid by me for pens=(2.5/4)*100=62.5%

  solving 1 &2 we get
  4pen=2x-3x/2 --->pen=x/8
  if 1pen=x/8 then 5pen=5x/8
  the a%of x=5x/8
  a=500/8=62.5
