If each of them arrives at a random time between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. What is the probability that the meeting takes place?

• 9:30-9.45-10-10.15-10.30
  now since A can arrive in any of the four slots and same wid B,so total sample space is 16;
  now suppose A has arrived between 9.30-9.45 then if B arrives in oder 3 slots then
  they dont meet and same with B if a arrives in another 3 slots
  total probability that they dont meet is p(a)*P(b)=3/4*3/4 = 9/16;
  now they meet is 1-9/16=7/16;

• both friends may meet at 9.30 or 9.45 or 10.00 or 10.15 or inbetween the two timings. so (4+3)/16=7/16.

  There are four 15 min in one hour.
  now we first calculate the probablity that they dont meet
  which is
  for person A=45/60=3/4
  for person B=45/60=3/4
  now 3/4*3/4=9/16
  
  hence the total probablity is
  1-(9/16)=7/16
