Ans c) 200 miles.
Let the distance traveled by the ship after 180 miles to meet the plane be 'd'
Speed of the ship be 'x' and speed of the ship be '10x'
Time taken by plane to travel 180+d dist. = time take by ship for 'd' dist.
(180+d)/10x=d/x
180+d=10d
d=180/9=20.
So the distance traveled when they meet from starting point=180+d=200 miles - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(13) No(1)
- If x mph is speed of ship and 10 x is speed of plane.
Rel speed=9x.
Then they will meet after 20/x hrs.
Distance travelled by plane in 20/x hrs will be 200 miles.
so they will meet 200 miles away from shore. - 15 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(2)
- i think ans is 20 miles...coz it is wanted that 'how long from the shore will they meet?'

- speed of ship be 'v' and that of plane is '10v'
x be distance travelled by ship
so,180+x is the distance travelled by plane in same time
so,x/v=(180+x)/10v
so,x=20 miles and they meet at 200 miles from shore - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
