Time Distance and Speed
A boat sails downstream from point a to ponit b, which is 10 km away from a, and then returns to a. If the actual speed of the boat is 3 km/h, the trip from a to b takes 8 hours less then that of b to a. What must the actual speed of the boat for the trip from a to b to take exactly 100 minutes?

- Ans= 4km/hr
Let speed of still water be s
Then according to given statement
10/(3-s) - 10/(3+s) = 8
By solving this equation
we will get s= 2 km/hr
Now we have to find actual speed of boat
so, 10/(speed of boat+2) =100/60
this gives us the speed of boat as 4 km/hr
Hence the answer is 4 km/hr - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
