hence formula is:1(Area(h*w)) + 2(Area(h*l)) + 2(Area(w*l))
surface area of box = 1*(12*12) +2(12*4)+2*(12*4)
=144+96+96
=336 sq. units

ii)given base(h*w)=12*4 then one lid is open hence h=12,w=4 n from above l=12
formula is:1(Area(h*w)) + 2(Area(h*l)) + 2(Area(w*l))
1*(12*4)+2*(12*12)+2(12*4)
=48+288+96
= 432 sq. units

Since the base is 12 by 12 it will have one surface area . there is no lid
surface area of box = 1*(12*12) +2(12*4)+2*(12*4)=144+96+96=336 sq. units
