When m+n is divided by 12, it leaves the remainder 8 and when m-n is divided by 12 it leaves the remainder 6. What is the remainder when m*n is divided by 6?
Read Solution (Total 7)
-
- m+n=12k+8
m-n=12p+6
m=6(k+p)+7
n=6(k-p)+1
m*n=36(k^2-p^2)+42(k-p)+6(k+P)+7
so if we devided by 6 we will get remainder 1 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(34) No(2)
- R(m)+R(n)=8
R(m)-R(n)=6
R(m)=7
R(n)=1
1x7/6 leaves a remainder 1.

- if we assume m+n=104 n if we divide it by 12 we get rem as 8.
similarly m-n=102 we get rem as 6.
by solving these two equations we get the values of m and n as 103 and 1 so dividing m*n by 6 we get the rem as 1. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- (m+n-8)/ 12= (m-n-6)/12
n=1
assume 20..
if n=1, then m=19
so, m*n=19
19/6=3 with reminder 1. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- (m+n)/12 = 8 --> m+n = 12*8 = 96
(m-n)/12 = 6 --> m-n = 12*6 = 72
adding both equations, we have :
(m+n)+(m-n)=96+72
2m = 168
m = 84
now, m-n = 72
or 84 - n = 72
--> n = 12

- m+n=12k+8
m-n=12p+6
m=6(k+p)+7
n=6(k-p)+1
m*n=36(k^2-p^2)+42(k-p)+6(k+P)+7
this when divided by 6 will give remainder = 1 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- first convert in terms of m and n then multiply both the constant term will be 7 so when it is divided by one should give the remainder 1.
