Toy train produces at least 10 different tunes when it moves around a circular toy track of radius 5 meters at 10 meters per minute. However the toy train is defective and it now produces only two different tunes at random. What is the probability that the toy train produces 4 consecutive music tunes of the same type?
a) 1 in 16 b) 1 in 4 c) 1 in 8

- let A be an event to produce 1 music tune.
so, event A contains sample point n(A)=1
and, "the toy train.......produces only two different tunes at random" means the number of sample point at the sample space is n(S)=2
so,the probability to happen ringing 1 tune=n(A)/n(S)
=1/2
now,to produce 4 consecutive music tunes of the same type, the n(S) would be 2^4=16
then, probability for that happening is 1/16
ans:1/16 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(21) No(14)
- (1/2)^4=1/16
then 1/16*2=1/8
bcoz 1/16 is 4r one sound , 4r 2 sounds it is 1/8. - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(17) No(6)
- 1*1/2*1/2*1/2 s0 1 in 8

- a) i in 16
as the probability for a sound to occur is 1/2 as the train can produce only two sounds now.. so toatal probabilty for four consecutive times for a single wistle= 1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2=1 in 16.... - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(5)
- 1/2*1/2*1/2*1/2=1/16

- y dont we consider the selection of 2 sounds out of 10
n then find the probability - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(5)
