5 Friends live in the same road A, B, C, D, E. The numbers of B, C, D when multiplied together equals 1260. The numbers B, C, D when added equal twice E’s number, and is even. A’s number is half as much again as E’s. The road numbers run from 2 to 222.What are the 5 house numbers?

- The house numbers are as follows
A 36 ,6
B 4 ,2
C 9 ,3
D 35 ,210
E 24 ,8
given B x C x D = 1260
also B + C + D = 2 x E,
A = E +(E/2)
we can solve this by finding the factor of 1260
again we have a condition that the numbers are between 2 to 222
now group the factors of 1260
There are 36 factors of 1260:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18,20, 21, 28, 30, 35, 36, 42, 45, 60, 70, 84, 90,105, 126, 140, 180, 210, 252, 315, 630, 1260
as per the condition we must use only numbers between 2 & 222
therefore the count is reduced to 29 from 36
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 18,20, 21, 28, 30, 35, 36, 42, 45, 60, 70, 84, 90,105, 126, 140, 180, 210
now choose appropriate number matches for 1260 from reverse order for ease
210*6 = 210*3*2
by this 6,2,3,210,8
similarly 36,4,9,35,24 also suits
but generalized numbers will be in these multiples as follows
A will be a multiple of 6
B will be a multiple of 2
C will be a multiple of 3
D will be a multiple of 35
E will be a multiple of 8
think so i justified the answer but correct me if any ...... - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(3)
- ans. the numbers are : 12, 4, 9, 35, 24
1260 = 4*9*35
4+9+35 = 48 = 2*E => E = 24(even)
thus A = 12 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(5)
- house numbers can be 4,10,15,20,21.
- 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(3)
- 9,9,7,20,18
coz b*c*d=1260
and b+c+d=36 and 36/2=18
so e=18
a=9 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
