a car is filled with four and a half gallon of oil for full round trip.fuel is taken 1/4gallon more in going than coming.what is the fuel consumed in coming up?

• It means while going up, it takes 1/4 gallon extra.
  Keep 1/4 gallon extra for up hill route and divide the balance 4.25 gallon equally for two way journey.
  So fuel consumed for downside journey = 4.25/2= 2.125 gallons.
  fuel consumed for upside journey = 4.5 - 2.125 = 2. 375 gallons

  = 2.25x

  2x=4.5 or x=2.25
  now for goin it requires .25 gallon more.
  so..x for goin=2.25+.25=2.5
  so for coming fuel consumed=4.5-2.5= 2 gallons....

  (x+1/4)+x=4.5 => 2x+.25=4.5 => x=2.125 Ans.

  4.5= 2x+.25
  4.5-.25=2x
  4.25=2x
  --->x=4.5/2=2.125
  --->x=2.125
  Now for going===>2.125+0.25=2.375

  o for going=(x+x/4)
  total fuel for round trip=x+(x+x/4)=9x/4
  as given total fuel=4 nd half gallon=9/2
  so 9x/4=9/2=>x=2;
  so for coming it take 2 gallon.
