1. What is the side of the largest possible regular octagon that can be cut out of a square of side 1 cm?
Read Solution (Total 8)
-
- Let a side of Octagon be x
Let the remaining portion of that side of square be y
then x+2y=1 & x^2=2y^2
Solving this two equation the result will be 0.414 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(27) No(1)
- Let x be the length of the side of the octagon & y be the length of triangular piece cut from the square.
given length of side of squous are=1
so x+2*y=1
in the triangle,from pythagorous theorem, y^2 + y^2 = x^2
solving these two eqns gives x=.293 & y=.414 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(21) No(1)
- the diagonal of the square will be octagon's largest possible arm so ans is =1*root(2)=1.414

- Diagonal of the square is the largest.
therefore, applying formula s^2=1/2d^2 where s is side and d is diagonal.
by solving this eq we get ans:1.414 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(7)
- ans will be .212 ,sorry i need digram to explain
