Time and Work
Two men, 3 women working full time and 3 part times can complete a job in 20 days. Four men and 9 women working full time can complete the same job in 10 days. Find the ratio of the times taken by a woman (full-timer) and a part timer to complete the job.

- let X=single man one day work
y=single woman one day work
so single woman's part tym work will be y/2
so 1st equation is,
2x+3y+3(y/2)=1/20 (as they are completing in 20 days)
2nd equation wil be,
4x+9y=1/10 (as they are completing in 10 days)
solving both equations we will get,
y=1/90 (this is the single woman's full timer 1 day work)
so now taking the ratio of full-timer and a part timer we will get
90:45=2:1

- here,part time does not mean it has to half of the full time women's work.
And a full time women should finish the job faster than the half time woman.
So, i think the previous answers are wrong.
solution:
let X=single man one day work
y=single woman one day work
z=single part time woman one day work
so, 2x+3y+3z=1/20 --->(1)
4x+9y =1/10 --->(2)
by solving this we get
y=2z
so, the ratio is 1:2 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(1)
- reema ur solution is wrong
when we solve both euation it becomes zero.
so ur answer is wrong

- let work done by a man is x in full time and that of woman is y in full time. so 2 equations will be
[2*x+3*y+(3*y)/2]=1/20
[x+3y]=1/40
solving both y=1/40 mean woman can complete a work in 40 days in full time.ans is 2:1 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(9)
- @pinaki
let x=a single mans 1 day work in fulltime
y=a womans 1day work in full time
as it is given two men full time,3 woman full time and 3 women part time can complte a work in 20 days.
if we vl calculate 1 day work so 3*(1 day work of a man full time)+3*(1 day work of a woman in fulltime)+3*(1 day work of woman half time)=1/20 part
so 3*x+3*y+3*(y/2)=1/20
2nd eqn 4(1 day work of a man full time)+9*(1 day work of a woman full time)=1/10 part
so eqn becomes 4x+9y=1/10. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
- question is to Find the ratio of the " times " taken by a woman (full-timer) and a part timer to complete the job.
so answer should be 1:2 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
