Maths Puzzle
a+b+c+d+e=fg
fg=10f+g
find g such that fg has maximum value.
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- if a,b,c,d,e are different & one digit no.
then they must be 5,6,7,8,9 to give maxm sum
a+b+c+d+e=35
or g=5
if a,b,c,d,e are not diffr
then a+b+c+d+e=9+9+9+9+9=45(take each number 9)
or g=5

- As FG should be as large as possible, let us consider
9,8,7,6,5 for A,B,C,D,E. Now FG= 35 which is not possible as
G= 5 which is same as 5 (remember each represent different
single digit number).
Likewise 9,8,7,6,[4,3,2,1] are also not a valid combination.
Now consider 9,8,7,5,4 for A,B,C,D,E. It is invalid as sum is 33
with 3 repeating.
9,8,7,5,3 is invalid as sum is 32 with 3 repeating for E and F.
9,8,7,5,2 is valid as sum is 31. Hence answer is 1. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
