A company has three staff members working in communications department. They are Peter, Satish and Raju. The company has received a work of sending communication to its potential customers. The time the three take to complete the dispatch work together is 2 days less than Peter would have taken to do it alone, 10 days less than Satish to do the work alone and one-third of the time that Raju would have taken working alone. How many days will the three people take to do the dispatch of all the mails working together?

The values are 2 days together for all the three, 4 days for Peter, 12 days for Satish and 6 days for Raju.
The question can be solved by forming the equation and solving the equation
The equation will be
1/x = 1/(x+2) +1/(x+10) + 1/3x
A quadratic equation has to be solved to obtain the answer.
The question can also be solved by Reasoning.
Raju has done one-third of the work.
So, Satish and Peter has done 2/3 of the work.
So, Answer cannot be 4, as in the casse of 4, peter would have done 4/6 th of the work,and this is not possible.
Answer also cannot be 1, as in this case Peter would have worked 1/3 of the work, this is also not possible, as peter is more effecient than Satish

and total days taken by three working together=x days
then 1 day work of peter=1/(x+2)
1 day work of satish=1/(x+10)
1 day work of raju=1/(3x)
totall 1 day work of all three=1/(x+2) + 1/(x+10) + 1/(3x)
total x days work of all three =x* ( 1/(x+2) + 1/(x+10) + 1/(3x) )
which is equal to 1(total work).
=> 1=x* ( 1/(x+2) + 1/(x+10) + 1/(3x) )
=>x=2,-5
so x=2 is acceptable

C=1/3x
1/x+2 + 1/x+10 + 1/3x =1/x
