Profit and Loss
Q. For a party 240 guests were invited. Contractor have gained 12.5% profit but 30 guests were absent. He charged the same amt for a meal and lost 100 Rs. How much a meal costs?
Read Solution (Total 6)
-
- Let Cost of one meal be x.
Hence, C.P. of 240 meals = 240 x.
Since contractor gains 12.5 % profit therefore
total selling price = 240x + 240*12.5/100 x
= 270x.
Now 30 guest were absent.
Therefore C.P will remain same = 240x
And new S.P for 210 guest = (270/240 ) *
210 x
In this case he incurrs a loss of Rs 100.
240x - (9/8) x * 210 = 100
x=80/3.
So, cost of one meal is Rs. 80/3. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(32) No(15)
- Let cost of one meal=x,
cp=240x
He is getting profit of 12.5%
so sp=112.5/100(240x)
when 30 guests were absent meal cost remains same and he was lossing 100 rupees
so for 210 guests sp=210x+100
so 112.5/100(240x)=210x+100=>x=5/3.
you can check these value by substituting in the above equations. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(14) No(1)

- If x is the cost of 1 meal, then
240x*10/112.5 = 210x+100
solving it, we get
x= Rs 30. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(10)
- If x is the cost of 1 meal, then
240x*100/112.5 = 210x+100
solving it, we get
x= Rs 30. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(5)
- let c.p=x
total c.p=240x
s.p=(112.5/100)*240x
=270x
if 30 guests are absent
i.e 240-30= 210
hence s.p of 10 people are
s.p=210x
then loss of 100 rs then
c.p-s.p=100;
s.p=100+210x;
if s.p is same for both condition
270x=210x+100
x=100/60
x=1.666 rs - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
