Ratio and Proportion
Q. There is a cask full of milk. E litres are drawn from the cask, it is the filled with water. This process is repeated. Now the ratio of milk to water in the cask is 16:9. What is the capacity of cask in litres.
Read Solution (Total 7)
-
- let x be the initial qty.
after one replacement proportional of milk left x-e/x,after two (x-e/x)^2,
the ratio is given as 16:9 i.e milk to water ratio,milk would be 16/25
(x-e/x)^=16/25
x-e/x=4/5
1-(e/x)=4/5
1-4/5=e/x
1/5=e/x
x=5E
i think the process is done two times.. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(19) No(2)
- Final conc= Initial conc* [1-(Amount replaced in each operation/total amount)]^no. of times operation is repeated
so 16/25=1*[1-(E/Capacity)]^2
=>4/5=1-[E/cap]
=>1-4/5=E/Cap
=>1/5=E/Cap
=>cap=5E(Ans) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- 4E
Formula:
X(1-E/X)^2=9/16
1-E/X=3/4
X=4E - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(16)
- can u explain ths can't understand

- milk/water ratio is given 16:9
it would have 16/25 parts of milk and 9/25 parts of water.
now,let initial qty be x, take E liter of milk and replace it with water,if E liter is taken out,
the Qty of milk left =x-E
so the fraction of milk after one replacement =X-E/X,similarly
for second time also it would be X-E/X,So after two replacement milk would be
(X-E/X)^2=16:25(GIVEN)
solve from here..
main point to understand is that,we are taking about milk left/original qty.

- there is a two mixed series.
1st one- 8,14(8+6),20(14+6) i.e 6+ in every csr.
2nd one- 3,6(3+3),*(i.e it will be 6+3=9)
so its 9 - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
