Q. A lorry starts from Banglore to Mysore at 6.00 A.M, 7.00 A.M, 8.00 am.....10 pm. Similarly one another starts from Mysore to Banglore at 6.00 am,7.00 am, 8.00 am.....10.00pm. A lorry takes 9 hours to travel from Banglore to Mysore and vice versa.
(i) A lorry which has started at 6.00 am will cross how many lorries. Ans: 10.
(ii) A lorry which had started at 6.00pm will cross how many lorries

• It will arrive at its destination at 3 pm
  so it will cross paths with a lorries that leave before 3 pm
  ie the ones that leave the destination at 6am, 7am, 8am. 9 am 10 am 11, am 12 noon,
  1pm and 2 pm ie 9 lorries and it will arrive just as the 10th one leaves.

  when this lorry starts here at 6 p.m, the lorry which started at 9 a.m from the other end just reaches here at 6 p.m so this lorry crosses all the lorries which start from the other end at 9 a.m and later, so it crosses lorries which start from the other end at 9 a.m, 10 am 11 am 12noon ....... 10 pm.. totally 14 lorries

  a lorry starting at 6 am would cross lorries that started @ 7am,8am,9am,10am,11am,12pm,1pm,2 pm of both Mysore-Banglore and vice versa . 8+8=16 lorries ; the lorry wud arrive as the 3pm lorry departs. hence 16+1=17 lorries
