The difference between the ages of my two granchildren are 3. My eldest grandchild is 3 times older than my youngest grand child and my eldest grandchild's age is 2 more than the ages of my other two grand children added together. What is the age of my youngest grandchild?

  now from problem y-z=3
  and x=3z
  and x=2(y+z)
  from solving these equations eldest son is 18
  younger is 6

  given x-y = 3--------------{a}
  && y-z = 3--------------{b}
  given x = 3z --------------{c}
  && x = (y+z)+ 2..........{d}
  solving equations {c} and {d}......new equation is 2z-y = 2--------{e}
  now by solving equations {e} and {b}
  we can get z = 5....
  so age of youngest child is 5...

  following answer is given by admin or manish sir for this question is absolutely correct
  .............
  youngest be x , then eldest = 3x.
  3x = y + x + 2 => y = 2x -2
  so ages are 3x , 2x-2 and x respectively.
  now check the options. 10 and 13 are not suitable in place of 3x so on taking 12 for 3x, x=4 so ages are 12,6,4 but this answer is not possible according to the condition- The difference between the ages of two of my three grandchildren is 3
  so take 3x=15, x=5 so ages are 15,8,5 and 8-5 =3 so 5 is the correct answer

• the difference between which 2 grandchildren is not given.if we consider those 2 grandchildren whose age difference is 3 as two older grandchildren then answer of jayendra is correct bt if we consider those grandchildren as 2 younger ones than answer is 5 instead of 6...also if no. of grandchildren is more than 3 which is not mention in the question then we can't find the answer.
