Time and Work
A and B can do a piece of work in 18 and 9 days respectively. A does the work for a few days and left, then B continued for 6 days. How many days did A and B work together?
Read Solution (Total 15)
-
- A and B work together for 2days.
A 1day work 1/18
B 1day work 1/9
Let A work x days.
Then equation form is
(x/18) + ((x+6)/9) = 1
From this equation x value is 2.

- A 1day work=1/18
B 1day work=1/9
A+B 1day work=1/18+1/9 = 3/18 (1 work in 18/3 =6days)
B continued for 6 days,
so,B 6days work=6/9
Total work done by A+B together = (1-6/9) = 3/9
Hence,A+B
3/18 work in 1day(from above )
1 work in 18/3day=6day
so,3/9 work in(6*3/9)= 2 days
so,both A and B worked for 2 days..

- Simplest Way is to , take LCM of both the work that is A=18 & B=9 ie.{18}
Now this is toal work that is to be done..
if we divide A's work and B's work by this total work than we get A=1, and B=2
=>than sum these 1days work of A and B i.e 3(this is Capability of there work in 1 day....)
Now let A+B work is 3 no. of days they worked be x so, total work they done for x days is==> 3x
again when A left remainig work done by B in 6 Days hence total work by B in 6 Days is 6X2 i.e 12
now we no total work is 18.
ie.
3x + 12 = 18
x=2 Ans:) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(8) No(0)
- a=18 and b=9
a's 1 day work=1/18
b's 1 day work=1/9
a+b= 1/18+1/9 = 27/162=3/18=1/6
a+b's 1 day work=1/6
in 6 days b can complete
1 1/9
6
6/9= 2/3 part of d work
Remainng 1/3 was done by a+b
1 1/6
? 1/3
1/3*6/1= 2days
so a+b worked for 2 days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(0)
- A --- 18 days
B-----9 days
Let the total work is 18 UNITS (i.e L C M 0f 18 and 9).
1 day work of A--- (18/18) -units/day=1 u/d
1 day work of B --- (18/9) units/day= 2 u/d
now 6 days work of is --- 6*2= 12 units
remaining work = 18-12=6.
A and B worked Both === 6/(1+2)=2 days.

- A's 1 day work=1/18
B's 1 day work=1/9
both A and B's work in 1day =(1/18)+(1/9)
=3/18
=1/6
so in 6days they will complete the work - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(22)
- let A works for 'x' days
now from the given problem x/18 + (x+6)/9 = 1
we get x=2 so A worked for 2 days and B also worked for 2 days+ 6 days=8 days.
So total work = 2+8=10 days - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- it was clearly stated that B worked till the work gets completed. So consider B worked for X days and it was clearly stated that A worked 6 days less than B. So consider A worked for X-6 days and in question he said that work was completed so take 1 in RHS side.
A's 1day work is 1/18.
B's 1day work is 1/9.
The equation is:
(x-6)/18+(x)/9=1
By solving above equation we get X=2. - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- A's one day work=1/18
B's one day work=1/9
A+B's one day work=1/18+1/9=3/18
B's 6 days work=6*1/9=6/9
remaining work=1-6/9=3/9
now 3/18 work in one day
3/9 work in how many days?
=3/9*1/3/18=1/3/1/6=1/3*6=2days

- One day work of A=1/18
One day work of B=1/9
1/18*X+1/9(6+X)=1

- Lcm of work=18 unit
A work is=1unit per day
B wwork is=2 unit per day
A&B one day work=3 unit per day
So 6*3=18 unit ,so ans is 6 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- A 1day work 1/18
B 1day work 1/9
B 's 6 days work 2/3
Remaining work will be done by (A+B) =1-2/3=1/3
(A+B)'s one day work is (1/18 +1/9)=1/6
A+B)'s work togethe for ((1/3)/(1/6)=2 days

- A alone can complete work in 18 days and B alone can complete work in 9 days.
Now, let A and B work together for 'X' days after which A leaves. Then B alone works for 6 days and finished the work. Hence the combined work of A and B is equal to 3 days of B alone.
One day's work of A= 1/18, One day's work of B = 1/9.
1/18 *X + 1/9 *X = 1/9 * 3
X+2X/ 18= 1/3
3X = 18/3
X= 18/9
X= 2 - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- [mn-p(m-n)]/(m+n) where m=A's working days
n = B's working days and after p days A LEFT
by putting these values
[(18*9)-p(18-9)](18+9)=6
p=2 days - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
