A and B can do a piece of work in 18 and 9 days respectively. A does the work for a few days and left, then B continued for 6 days. How many days did A and B work together?

  Let A work x days.
  Then equation form is
  (x/18) + ((x+6)/9) = 1
  From this equation x value is 2.

  B continued for 6 days,
  so,B 6days work=6/9

  Hence,A+B
  3/18 work in 1day(from above )
  1 work in 18/3day=6day
  so,3/9 work in(6*3/9)= 2 days

  Now this is toal work that is to be done..
  if we divide A's work and B's work by this total work than we get A=1, and B=2

  Now let A+B work is 3 no. of days they worked be x so, total work they done for x days is==> 3x
  again when A left remainig work done by B in 6 Days hence total work by B in 6 Days is 6X2 i.e 12

• it was clearly stated that B worked till the work gets completed. So consider B worked for X days and it was clearly stated that A worked 6 days less than B. So consider A worked for X-6 days and in question he said that work was completed so take 1 in RHS side.

  (x-6)/18+(x)/9=1
  By solving above equation we get X=2.

  Now, let A and B work together for 'X' days after which A leaves. Then B alone works for 6 days and finished the work. Hence the combined work of A and B is equal to 3 days of B alone.

  1/18 *X + 1/9 *X = 1/9 * 3
  X+2X/ 18= 1/3
  3X = 18/3
