A dishonest dealer sells as a weight of 800gm in place of 1 kg and adds 20% impurities in sugar. What would be his profit % if he claims to be selling at cost price?
Read Solution (Total 10)
-
- weight profit = 1000-800 = 200 gm
impurities profit= 800* 20/100 =160 gm
total profit on 1 kg = 200 + 160 = 360 gm
profit % = 360 *100/ 1000 = 36 % - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(22) No(6)
- I think here we all are making one mistake that is when ever we are calculating profit percent means calculating profit with respect to cost price.
then we have 360*100 / 640 = 9/16 * 100 = 900/16 = 56.25 % is our profit - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(3)
- say he bought 1000gm @100rs
add 20% impurities stock becomes 1200gm with no extra cost
now find cost of 800 gm sugar 100*800/1200=200/3
this 800 gm sugar is sold @ 100 rs
So Profit = (100-200/3)
profit of 100/3 on cp 200/3
Profit % = 50 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(1)
- let the price for 1kg(1000gm) is equals to Rs.x
instead of 1000gm use only 800gm and in that also adds 20% impurities, that means he sells only 640gm(800-800*20%) as take price of 1000gm.
so 640gm cost him only rs 16x/25, so the profit made is (x-16x/25) and the profit percentage is (x-16x/25)*100% which equals 36%.

- let 1000g suger price is Rs. x
so his selling 800g suger at a price of (x*800)/1000=4x/5
now his profit in Rs. is (x-4x/5)=x/5
then his profit% =((x/5)*100)x=20% - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(8)
- weight profit =1000-800=200gm
he gets 200gms profit selling 800gm so profit %=200/800=25%
as he adds 20% impurities considering them of free of cost which is totally profit
so total profit=20+25=45% - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(5)
- correction in the previous post:
(x-16x/25)/x *100% = 36% - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
- let Cost price of 1000g=1kg sugar is Rs. 1000 . After adding impurity weight would be 1200gm=1.2kg.
Since he sells 800gms instead of 1Kg. Then the cost price of 800gms is=800*1000/1200.
Then %profit=(SP-CP)/CP=(1000-2000/3)/(2000/3)=50%. - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- weight profit = 200gm
so, weight profit%= (200/800)100= 25%
now, additional 20% of impurity ( always free)
net profit% = 20 + 25 + (20*25/100) = 50% - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- Let 1000g cp - 100rs
800g sp -100rs
hence 1g cp-1/10
1g sp = 1/8
hence profit = ((1/8-1/10)/1/10)*100
=25% - 2 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
