Logical Reasoning
Logical Sequences
Q. Chief minister Arvind , other ministers and policemen travel from one place to other in a convey. Each of them have their own cars. There are 10 members- 4 police and 6 ministers - The ministers are Arvind, M, Rakesh, G, S and B.
1)Arvind and G are scared and do not stand at the front or at the rear end of the convey
2) M is at the 9th position
3) S,B and Rakesh move one after the other and B is always between S and Rakesh.
4) Arvind and G are neither after nor before any minister.
What are combinations possible?
Read Solution (Total 18)
-
- There are 8 combinations possible.
Combination=Selection
Let us first eliminate the positions Arvind and G cannot occupy.
These will be 1,8,9 and 10.
1 and 10 due to the 1st condition
8 and 9 due to the 4th and 2nd conditions respectively
S-B-R can occupy only 3 consecutive positions.
This can be 1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5, 4-5-6, 5-6-7 or 6-7-8
If we select 1-2-3, the 4th position becomes unavailable for Arvind/G owing to condition 4. Now, 3 positions available(5,6,7) for 2 ministers Arvind and G. This will be 3C2=3
If we select 2-3-4, the 5th position becomes unavailable for Arvind/G. Now, only 2 positions(6,7) available for 2 ministers. This will be 2C2=1
If we select 3-4-5, the 2nd and 6th positions become unavailable. Now only 1 position(7) available for 2 ministers.
Similarly, for 4-5-6, the 3rd and 7th positions become unavailable. Now also only 1 position(2) available for 2 ministers.
If we select 5-6-7, the 4th position becomes unavailable for Arvind/G. Now, only 2 positions(2,3) available for 2 ministers. This will be 2C2=1
If we select 6-7-8, 5th position becomes unavailable. Now 3 positions(2,3,4) available for Arvind/G. This will be 3C2=3
Thus, the total number of combinations=3C2+2C2+2C2+3C2=3+1+1+3=8 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(0)
