Q> 72x23y is divisible by 88. Then find out the value of x and y?

• Divisible by 88 means it should be divisible by both 11 nd 8
  
  divisible by 8 -->last 3 digits shud by divisible by 8 ... so 23x=232which is divisible by 8
  
  divisible by 11 --> sum of odd terms - sum of even terms (7+x+3)-(2+2+2)
  10+x-6=11
  x=7

• If a number N is divided by 88. Then we can say that N is also divisible by 8 and 11 , bcoz 8 an 11 are factors of 88.
  
  The given number will be divisible by 8 if the last three digit of the number is divisible by 8. For this 23y shold completely divisible by 8. That means 'y' should be 2
  If 'y' is 2 then the number will be 72x232 .
  Now we have to check this number for 11 also.
  For a number divisible by number then difference of sum of its digit at even place and digits at odd place should be zero or multiple of 11.
  Thats why x should be 7.
