Time Distance and Speed
A man reaches his office two hours late travelling at 50 km/hr.if he increases his speed to 60km/hr,he is late by 1 hour. find the distance he has to travel to reach his office and speed required to reach the office in time
Read Solution (Total 11)
-
- let distance be d km & time reqd be t hour then
d/50 = (t+2)
d/60 = (t+1)
=> 50(t+2)=60(t+1)
=> 5t+10=6t+6
=> t=4
put t=4 in eqn d/50=(t+2)=> d=50(4+2)=300
d = 300 km & t = 4 hour

- If x is the distance , then
x/50- x/60 =1
x= 300 kms
Then total time allowed for reaching in time = 300/60 -1 = 4 hrs
Speed required to reach in time = 300/4 = 75 kms/hr - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(40) No(0)
- assume the distance is x
the according to our question
(x/50)-(x/60)=1
x=300km;
time to be taken=300/50=4 hrs - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(8)
- let time =t;
50*(t+2)= 60*(t+1);
t=4 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(0)
- There is formula to find out total distance => ( v * u )( p + q )/( v - u )
where : 'p' hours late travelling at a speed of 'u' kmph
&'q' hours early travelling at a speed of 'v' kmph
Here 'q' also late. So we take as a negative value for 'q'
So p = 2hrs at speed u = 50kmph
& q = -1hrs at speed v = 60kmph
So total distance = ( 60 * 50 )( 2 - 1 )/( 60 - 50 ) = 300km
So actual time = 300/60-1 =4hrs
So required speed = 300/4 = 75kmph - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(4)

- suppose distance of his office is x and time =t
when speed is 50km/hr then by formula speed =distance/time
50=x/(t+2) as he reaches 2 hr late by actual time
x=50*(t+2) this is equation 1
same as for 60km/hr speed
x=60*(t+1) this is equation 2
by comparing 1 and 2
we get t=4
now put t in any equation
we get x= 300km
now speed to reach office in time= 300/4= 75km/hr

- speed * time = > 50* 2 * 5/18 = (x+18)* 5/18 *1
500/18 = 5/18 + 300/18
200/18 = 5/18
5 x = 200
x = 40 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
