a barrel contain a mixture of wine and water in the ratio 3:1. how much fraction of mixture must be drawn off and substituted by water so that the ratio of wine and water in the resulting mixture is 1:1

- 1/3
If original mixture is 100 liters with ratio 75:25 of wine:water &
fraction'x' is drawn off from the mixture
Quantity remained of Wine:Water=[75-(x*75/100)]:[25-(x*25/100)]
=[(300-3x)/4]:[(100-x)/4]
Substituting equal quantity of water makes the mixture ratio 1:1
So [(300-3x)/4]=[((100-x)/4) +x ],x=200/6= 100/3, which is 1/3 of original mixture - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(0)
