Q. A piece of wood cut into three pieces A,B,C.are they of equal?
1)sum of the length of two pieces is 2/3rd of the original length.
2)B & C are the same length.

sum of the length of two pieces is 2/3rd of the original length
=> B+C=(2/3)*(A+B+C)
=> 3B+3C=2A+2B+2C
=> B+C=2A ......(1)
B & C are the same length => B=C .......(2)
putting B=C in (1),we get, C+C=2A => C=A ......(3)
(2)&(3) => A=B=C

- 1 nd 2 both required to get the answer a b and c are of same length
we have 2 cases a) A+B=2/3L b) B+C=2/3L and we know A+B+C=L and B=C
so case a) A+B=2/3L is equal to A+C=2/3L as B=C
so 2A+B+C=A+L=4/3L
ie A=1/3L nd B=C=1/2(2/3L)
b)B+C=2/3L

- Let us take a blind example to solve the problem
Let the wood is of 9 meter length.
1)Possibility-- A= 2 meter, B= 4 meter and C= 3 meter
here A+b=6 which is 2/3rd of 9 and also A,B & C are not equal.
2)Possibility-- Let B= 2 meter and C= 2 meter & C= 5 meter
Here B=C but A,B & C are not equal.
Hence both 1 & 2 are not sufficient to give the answer.

therefore,c=(1/3)x.

so a+b=(2/3)x,a=(2/3)x-(1/3)x.=(1/3)x.
