Ratio and Proportion
The age of two friends is in the ratio 6:5, the sum of their ages is 66. After how many years will the ages be in the ratio 8:7?
Read Solution (Total 11)
-
- their present ages are
6/(6+5) *66 = 36 & 5/(6+5) *66 = 30
let after x years, their ages will be in the ratio 8:7
then, (36+x)/(30+x)=8/7
=> 7*36 +7x = 8*30 + 8x
=> x=12
so, after 12 years their ages will be in the ratio 8:7 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(26) No(0)
- let 5x+6x=66.
x=6
now let y yeras after there age will be in the ratio 8:7
so(6x+y/5x+y)=8/7(wher x=6)
solving this we get y=12(ans) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(9) No(0)
- age ratio was 6x:5x
sum of both age is 66.
so, 6x+5x=66
11x=66
x=6
6x:5x = 36:30
after few years the ratio will be 8x:7x .
sub the x value then 48:42
so the diff b/t the two ratio is 12
Ans: 12years - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(0)
- Answer is 12 years
consider x and y as the ages of two friends
given that,
x+y=66
x:y=6:5
therefore x=6y/5
substituting x=6y/5 in x+y=66
we get y=30 and x=36
now consider z as the number of years
36+z:30+z=8:7
by cross multiplying we get z=12 years
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Ratio = 6:5
Age of two friends = 66*(6/11) : 66*(5/11) = 36 : 30
After 12yrs = 48 : 42
so answer is 12yrs - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 6 x
- = ----
5 66-x
by cross multiplication
6(66-x) = 5x
396-6x = 5x
x=36 first person age
therefore
x = 66 - x
x = 66-36
x=30 second person age
here y represent the ratio 8:7
36 + y 8
------ = -
30 + y 7
by cross multiplication
7(36+y) = 8(30+y)
252 + 7y = 240 + 8y
y = 12 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- ans- 12years
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- let age of one friend be 6x years and age of other friend be 5x years.
6x+5x=11x
or,11x=66
so x=6
one friend age is 36years
other friend age is 30 years
let after y years the ratio of age be 8:7
(36+y)/(30+y)=8/7
or,252+7x=240+8x
or,x=12
hence after 12 years the ratio of ages is 8:7 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- ans.12 years
let, their ages is 6x & 5x respectively.
6x+5x=66;
x=6;
their present ages are 6*6=36 & 5*6=30;
let after y years their ages be in the ratio 8:7;
so, 36+y/30+y=8/7;
y=12; - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- 6x:5x
given 6x+5x=66;
x=6;
present ages are 36 & 30
after 12 years the ratio of their ages become 8:7 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- x+y=66
6x=5y
by solving we get
y=30,x=36
after 12 years their age 8:7
ans:12 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
