Quadratic Equations
Co-efficient of x in the equation x2 + px + q = 0 was wrongly written as 17 in place of 13 and the roots thus found were –2 and –15. The roots of the correct equation would be
Option
(a) 3, –10
(b) –3, –10
(c) –3, 10
(d) 3, 10
Read Solution (Total 1)
-
- roots are -2 & -15
so, eqn is x^2-(-2-15)*x+(-2)(-15)=0
=> x^2+17x+30=0 ----(1)
comparing eqn(1) with x^2+px+q = 0, we get q=30
p=13,q=30
correct eqn is x^2+13x+30=0
=>(x+3)(x+10)=0
=> x=-3,-10
(b) –3, –10 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
