The mean salary of all employee of an institute is Rs 18000. Mean annual salary for males and females respectively are Rs 24000 and Rs 14000. What is the percentage of female employee of the institute.

• Let the no of males be x & females b y.
  Total salary of males= 24000x & total salary of females= 14000y
  As total mean is 18000,therefore
  (24000x+14000y)/(x+y)=18000
  or
  24000x +14000y = 18000x+18000y
  6000 x =4000 y
  3x=2y
  x/y =2/3
  y/x= 3/2 ; y:x = 3:2
  
  so percentage of female employees of the institute = 100*3/5=60%

  =>6000x=4000y
  =>x/y=2/3
  Therefore % of female employees in the institute=(3/5)*100=60
