Time Distance and Speed
A train m leaves meerut at 5 a.m. and reaches delhi at 9 a.m. another train leaves delhi at 7 a.m. and reaches meerut at 10.30 a.m. at what time do the two trains_lavel3 cross each other ?
Read Solution (Total 6)

- 7:56am
Let the total distance be x
so the speed of 1st train is x/4 and 2nd train x/3.5
In 2 hours 1st train covers half of the total distance .
so remaining is only half of the total distance(ie x/2).
let t be the time taken
t*x/4 + t*x/3.5 = x/2
t=14/15 i.e. 56 min
ie
total time taken= 2 hrs + 56 min
time they cross each other is 7:56am (5+2.56)

Let the total distance be x
so the speed of 1st train is x/4 and 2nd train 2x/7
In 2 hours 1st train covers half of the total distance .
so remaining is only half of the total distance(ie x/2).
let t be the time taken
t*x/4 + t*2x/7= x/2
t=14/15 i.e.(14/15)*60 min= 56 min
ie
total time taken= 2 hrs + 56 min
time they cross each other is 7:56am (5+2.56)

- Let the total distance be x
so the speed of 1st train is x/4 and 2nd train x/3.5
In 2 hours 1st train covers half of the total distance .
so remaining is only half of the total distance(ie x/2).
let t be the time taken.
Now, the relative speed of 1st train with reference to 2nd train is
(x/4) - (x/3.5) = x/28
The time taken by the train to meet the 2nd train after 2 hrs is
t = d/t
= (x/2) / (x/28)
56 min
total time taken= 2 hrs + 56 min
time they cross each other is 7:56am (5+2.56) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(3)

- using formula
t=d/2(s1+s2)=d/2(d4+2d/7)
taking d outside in deno
t=d/2d(1/4+2/7)
after taking lcm and cancelling d we ll get
t=14/15
t=7:56 - 5 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
