  47^2=2209
  so here the difference is 3,6,12,24 between the numbers whose square has to be calculated.

  so let us take the difference between the consecutive numbers then we get
  (5-2),(11-5),(17-11),...
  3,6,6,...
  so the possible chance is to add 3 to the next number.
  ie. (17+3=20) so the next number will be the square of 20.
  ie. 20^2=400
  so the sequence is 4,25,121,289,400....
