I need help with this word problem.

A mother is five times as old as her son. If twice the age of the son is 3 years less than half of the age of the mother, how old are they?

• let x=mother age
  y=son age
  x=5y ---1 =>from 1st statement
  2y=(x/2-3) -----2 =>from 2nd statement
  after solving (1) and (2)
  x=30 ,y=6
