Suppose that you have a huge cucumber that is 99% water (by weight). The cucumber weighs 100 pounds. If the water content of the cucumber evaporates until it is 98% water (by weight), then approximately how much does the cucumber now weigh?

• Total Weight of Cucumber = 100 pounds (including 99% water nd 1%
  cucumber]
  Weight of water = 100*99/100 = 99 pounds
  Weight of solid part = 100-99 = 1 pound
  If water content evaporates , weight of solid part remains same only... bcozzz water only ll get evaporated...
  So weight of solid part = 1 pound
  Let the new total weight(solid part+water) of cucumber be "x"
  Weight of water is
  x*98/100 = x-1 [since (x-1) is the weight of water...water weight=total weight-solid part weight... ie x-1]
  98x = 100x-100
  2x = 100
  x = 50 pounds
  
  So the new weight of cucumber = 50 pounds [98% water, 1%solid part]
  
  Ans : 50 pounds

  In 100 pounds of cucumber, cucumber matter = 1kg and water weighs 99kg.
  Let the revised weight of cucumber be x kg.
  Now the cucumber matter weighs the same. So in 98% water by weight, the remaining 2% of x is 1kg of cucumber matter.
  Thus x*2/100 = 1kg, x=50 kg
