A farmer buys 100 animals for 100 dollars but lost his receipt. Cows are $10 each, pigs are $3 each and chicks are $.50 each. How many of each did he buy?
Read Solution (Total 1)
-
- Let 'x' be the number of cows, 'y' number of pigs and 'z' number of chicks he bought.
Total number of animals is 100.
x+y+z = 100 ---(1)
Total price is 100
10x+3y+0.50z = 100 ---(2)
2*(2) - (1) gives
19x + 5y = 100
Since x and y are whole numbers
==> x = 5
y = 1
Substituting in (1)
z = 94
5 cows, 1 pig and 94 chicks.
