There is a circular field having four doors in North,East,West and South.A person walks 3 metres from north and another coms out of the south door and walks 9 metres towards East so that he can able to see the first person.What is the diameter of the field?

The two persons will be at two end of a tangent to a circle & hypotenuse of a right angled triangle with sides (3+2r) & 9 ,if r=radius of a circle.
If perpendicular from center divides this tangent say in x & y, then
Applying pythagoras theorem, at three different rt. angled triangle.
x^2+r^2=(3+r)^2 , x^2=6r+9 ---(i) &
r^2+y^2=r^2+9^2 ,y=9 ---(ii) &
(3+2r)^2+9^2=(x+y)^2 ---(iii)
Substituting the value of x & y from (i) & (ii) into (iii), we get
4r^4+12r^3+9r^2-486r-729=0
