Maths Puzzle
Mr. Verma is 5 years older than his wife. Two years ago, he noticed that he had been married half his life. Presently Mrs. Verma calculated that she would have been married 3/4th of her life in next 31 years. What will be the sum of their ages on their 40th wedding anniversary?
Read Solution (Total 3)
-
- Sum of ages on their 40th wedding anniversary = 123 years.
If 2 years ago, they were married for x years , then
age of Mr. verma = 2x , age of Mrs verma = 2x-5
After 31 years , they are married for x+2+31= x+33 years., Age of Mrs verma = 2x-5+2+31 = 2x+28 years.
AS per given condition
x+33 = (3/4)*(2x+28)
x= 24
so when they are married for 24 years, their ages are 48 years and 43 years
so when they are married for 40 years, their ages are 64 years and 59 years.
so when they are married for 57 (24+2+31) years, age of Mrs verma is 76 years
sum of ages = 64+59 = 123 years - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- The sum of their age on their 40th wedding Anniversary :183 years:
TWO YEARS AGO:
Let Mr Verma's age be 2x years and so Mrs. Verma's age is 2x-5 years
Experience of Mr Verma's marriage is 2x/2 years
PRESENT AGE:
Mr. Verma's age would be 2x+2 years and Mrs Verma age would be 2x-3 years
AFTER NEXT 31 YEARS:
Mr. Verma's age would be 2x+34 years and Mr. Verma's age would be 2x+28 years
Experience of Mrs. Verma's marriage would be 3/4*(2x+28) years
Now experience in years of both their marriage would be the same.
Now the equation is (x+33)=3/4(x+28)
Solving the equation we get x=54 years
Hence Mr. Verma married at the age of 54 and at that time Mrs. Verma's age would be 49 years:
Thus the sum of their ages on 40th wedding anniversary:(54+40)+(49+40)=183 years

- One small correction to the problem is that
Mr. Verma's age would be 2x+33 yrs.
Of course this is not relevant - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
