Ratio and Proportion
A vessel has a milk solution in which milk and water are in the ratio 4:1. by addition of water to it, milk solution with milk and water in the ratio 4:3 was formed. on replacing 14 L of this solution with pure milk the ratio of milk and water changed to 5:3. what is the volume of the water added?
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- 32L
M:L= 4:1 => 4x of milk and 1x of water
after adding water M:W =4:3 =>4x of milk and 3x of water(means 2x extra water is added)
now , 14 L IS REPLACED WITH PURE MILK
that means (4x/7x)*14 = 8L of pure milk is removed and (3x/7x)*14 = 6L of water is rmoved from (4x +3x)L of solution
now adding 14L pure milk
(4x-8+14)/(3x-6)=5/3
on solving x =16
therfore 2x = 32 L OF WATER is added - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(2)
- 32 litres of water was added.
M....W
64..16.. initially .... ratio = 4:1
64..48... After adding 32 litre water... ratio = 4:3
56..42... removing 14 litre mixture
70..42.... adding 14 litre pure milk .... ratio = 5:3 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(3)
- after addition of water the ratio is 4:3. so in 14 litres of sol. there is 8 l of milk and 6 lt of water. so when 14 lits of milk is added, actually only 6 lts of milk is added and the water composition is reduced by 6 l.
4x+6/3x-6 = 5/3
x comes to 12 . so water added is 24. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(3)
- Ans :36 ltr
Let 5x be solution, milk(4x) water(x)
Now y ltr wtr b added then 4x/(x+y)=4/3 on silving we get y=2x
Total solution nw is 5x+2x=7x fom dis 14 ltr taken out which means 8 ltr of milk and 6 ltr of wtr
Hence m:w=(4x-8):(3x-6) nw 14 ltr milk added
New ratio m:w=(4x-8+14):(3x-6)=5:3
On solving x=18
Watr added =2x=36 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(4)
