A can do a piece of work in 36 days, B in 54 days and C in 72 days. All of them began together but A left 8 days and B left 12 days before the completion of the work. How many days in all did C put in till the entire work was
finished?

so according to the given condition
(x-8)(1/36) + (x-12)(1/54) + x(1/72) = 1

one day work done by c=1/72
one day work done by a+b+c=13/216
work done by a+b+c for 8 days=13/27
remaining work=1-13/27=14/27

remaining work=14/27-7/54=7/18
remaining work done by alone c=7/18*72=28
total no. of days c has to work=28+4+8=40.
