• let two numbers be x and y
  given there sum is 4
  =>x+y=4........(1)
  and given there product is -32
  =>x*y= -32.....(2)
  by using this (x-y)^2=((x+y)^2)-4xy, we will be able to find x-y
  =>(x-y)^2=(4^2)-4(-32) (because x+y=4 and x*y=-32 from above (1)and(2))
  =>(x-y)^2=16+128
  =>(x-y)^2=144
  applying square root on both sides
  =>(x-y)=12
  since x+y=4 and x-y=12
  adding the above two equations
  x+y=4
  x-y=12
  =>2x=16 =>x=8
  substituting x=8 in either of the equation
  we get y= -4 (x+y=4 => 8+y=4 => y= -4)
