A pack of detergent weighed 4 kg when weighed in a balance with weights on the right side and 8 kg when weighed with weights on the left side which pan is havier and by how many kgs?

• If wt if right pan is R and left Pan is L, and wt of packet is P, then
  L+P=4+R
  R+P= L+8
  subtracting and solving, we get
  (R-L) = 2 kg
  so right pan is heavier by 2 kg.

• let L be heavier by 'y' kg and let 'x' be the weight of detergent
  then when weight taken on right : y+4=x
  and when weight taken on left : y+x=8
  on solving this, x=6 and y=2 which is positive this means left is heavier by 2kg
